Does it account for leap years?
Yes. The year/month/day arithmetic uses real calendar month lengths, so 29 February birthdays and leap years are handled correctly.
Why does my age in months not match my age in years times twelve?
Because months are different lengths. The years-months-days figure counts real calendar months, so someone born on 31 January is a month older on 28 February, not on 3 March. The total-months figure counts complete months elapsed, which is why the two do not multiply out neatly.
Can I use this to check an eligibility age for a form or exam?
Yes — set “Age as on” to the cut-off date the form specifies. Most Indian government exams state age as on a particular date rather than as on the day you apply, and that distinction can decide eligibility.
What if I was born on 29 February?
The calculation handles it. In non-leap years your anniversary is treated as 28 February, which is the convention Indian records and most legal systems use.
