Frequently Asked Questions

How do I compress a photo to exactly 50 KB?

Set the maximum size to 50 KB and click Compress. The tool automatically finds the highest JPEG quality that keeps the file at or under 50 KB, so you lose as little visual quality as possible.

Will compression change my image's dimensions?

Not by default on this page — “keep original dimensions” is enabled, so only the file size is reduced. Untick it if you also want to resize.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs entirely inside your browser; your image never leaves your device.

Why is the output a JPG?

JPEG offers adjustable compression, which is what makes hitting an exact file size possible. PNG input is converted to JPG automatically.
